When do you need a legal translation?
Any document drafted by a legal professional (lawyer, judge, legal adviser, etc.) requires a legal translation. In addition, certain financial documents containing legal concepts will need to be translated by a legal translator and a financial translator. Do I need a legal translation?
Legal translators specialise in translating legal texts; however, if a document needs to be valid for official purposes, a sworn translation will be required. These professional translators must also be language experts and have legal training, which might be a master's or university degree, or other types of law courses. Legal translation poses specific challenges, such as the need to accurately convert the original content into the target language, whilst ensuring that the translated text sounds completely natural. Translators must also have in-depth knowledge of the legal systems in the countries where both languages are spoken, as each will have their own unique and specific legal contexts.
